Tuesday - Welcome Back!

I'm back in Blacksburg for what I'm sure is going to be yet another fantastic semester at Virginia Tech.  However, before I get too far, I have an introduction to make.  This year the TFB staff is joined by a brand new member, Angelo.  Angelo just moved to Tech from Christiansburg this Sunday and has taken up residence in Lee Hall. Here is the obligatory staff photo (he was a bit dehydrated and wasn't feeling so great, so he may look a little green):
Okay, so Angelo just might be a new potted plant I picked up from Walmart, but that doesn't mean he isn't an important part of the TFB crew.  Angelo will be heading up several sections including; oxygen production, film review, and Letters to the Editor/Corrections. We here at TFB are expecting a lot from Angelo and we're sure he won't let us down!

Now, onto today's top story, weather.  The weather here at Virginia Tech has been crazy, and from the look of things Mother Nature has no intention of stopping the insanity!  Last Friday, just four days ago, Blacksburg received 2 inches of snowfall (according to the NWS, I think it was a bit more than that) and faced temperatures around 12 degrees Fahrenheit.  There was enough snow coming down that afternoon classes were canceled. That's right, classes were already being cancled on the fourth day of school!  Tomorrow we're looking at temperatures in the upper 60s along with thunderstorms.  But by Friday, we'll be back down in the 'teens with snowfall in the forecast! As we Hokies are fond of saying: "Blacksburg: the only place where you can experience all 4 seasons in a matter of days!"

Now, onto our next big story.  You may be asking yourself, "John, isn't this blog supposed to update every weekday? Where is Monday's post?"  Well, I have to admit I got a bit distracted with other things.  Well more like one thing in particular...
Yep, last night I bought a sofa! I've been looking for a new piece of furniture to sit underneath my bed for a bit, and this on popped up on Craigslist with a great price.  So without consulting my roommate  cleaning my dorm, or even measuring some dimensions, I went out and purchased it.  Fortunately it fit into the back of my car, and even better it fits nicely into my room.  Here's another view facing towards the desk:
As you can see, it is still a bit low, but I'm looking into buying some bed-risers or obtaining some cinderblocks to raise it up about 6 inches, which I think should be an optimal height.

Hey! Look, a distraction!
Oh wait, that's just my brownie sundae form Deet's Place. One big warm brownie, three scoops of cookies and cream, whipped cream, Oreo bits, rainbow sprinkles, and of course, a cherry on top! What better way could there be to celebrate this (extremely temporary) warm weather?

We'll finish up today's post with this picture I took while crossing the drill field to my 8 am class.  If you look carefully, you can see the moon right in the center of the picture.
A pale white orb in a deep blue sky,
A beautiful sight, beheld by few eyes,
Grasping for life as the seconds fly by,
A dawn-time moon straining against the sunrise.
